Our Company

As our atmosphere and aerobiome become known to be of greater importance to our world, Handix Scientific aims to enhance research and improve knowledge of our atmosphere from the lab to the sky. Handix Scientific is a company dedicated to developing aerosol instrumentation and performing atmospheric research.

We manufacture lightweight instruments for unmanned airborne applications as well as state-of-the-art ground-based instruments.

Slide Founders Pat Keady Dr. Susanne Hering Dr. Ping Chen is the Founder and CEO of Handix Scientific. Dr. Chen received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991. He worked at the University of Washington as a postdoc and at NOAA/CIRES as a research scientist on troposphere-stratosphere interaction, stratospheric transport and mixing, and the dynamics of planetary-scale waves. Dr. Chen has been involved in the sales and development of atmospheric and environmental instrumentation since 2004. He founded Handix Scientific in 2015, and by 2016 the Portable Optical Particle Spectrometer (POPS) was in production. Since that point, over 500 POPS have been sold around the world and Handix Scientific has expanded its line of products to include a Portable Aerosol Generation System (PAGS), Continuous Flow Diffusion Chamber (CFDC), and other products. Our POPS technology was originally developed by Dr. RuShan Gao and his team at NOAA CSL. Pat Keady (Aerosol Devices) & Dr. Susanne Hering (Aerosol Devices / Aerosol Dynamics) are the co-founders of Aerosol Devices, and led Aerosol Devices’ success up to its acquisition and merging into Handix Scientific in 2022. They are both past Presidents of the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) and leaders in the field with numerous aerosol measurement patents and publications. Our CGT technology was originally designed and continues to be supported by Dr. Susanne Hering and her team at Aerosol Dynamics Inc., with supportive funding by the National institutes of Health (1 RC3ES019081-01). Our Core Pillars Integrity—both in the scientific quality of our instrumentation and research, and in our dealings with the people connected to Handix Scientific—is the keystone that enables our long-term success. We hold ourselves to rigorous scientific, ethical, and professional standards. When we fall short, we take responsibility and make it right. Integrity Community We are active members of the global aerosol research community and the local communities where we live and work. We believe science advances best through collaboration, respect, and shared success. We strive to support our customers, collaborators, employees, suppliers, mentors, shareholders, and neighbors, while acting as responsible stewards of the environment. We value diverse perspectives and are animal-friendly. Impact We exist to advance scientific understanding through superior aerosol measurement capabilities that meaningfully improve health, safety, quality of life, and our environment. Our work is driven by real-world problems and the belief that better data leads to better decisions.
